Major site renovation in progress!
Angora Rabbits Angora rabbits are not only a source of enjoyment and quiet companionship - they are also the source of a wool that is incredibly soft and warm. Handspun into fine, durable yarn, it is seven times warmer than sheep's wool and so light it provides warmth without weight. Angora wool is continuously renewed and gently harvested during the rabbit's natural molting process. The Angora rabbit is never harmed for it's wool. Before you decide to make the personal and financial commitments required to successfully raise Angora rabbits, take the time to visit and talk with those breeders actively raising rabbits. Learn as much as you can before you become involved. You will need to decide what your primary goals will be from your Angoras. Do you want animals for pet, show or wool? What breed of Angora do you want? How much time will you be able to devote to your rabbits on a daily and weekly basis? How much space can you devote to properly housing your rabbits? What I'd Like to Do... ...Again When I lived in Southern California, I was a very active member--at one point either president, vp, show secretary and/or events chair--of the California Angora Rabbit Breeders' Association. This is a group of breeders, exhibitors and craftspeople dedicated to primarily to our Angora rabbits, and other fiber-producing critters. I'd like to develop an east-coast countrpart of this organization. We do this for FUN! It's our hobby; some would say our lifestyle, but a darn good choice of a lifestyle! I'm looking for fellow angora rabbit breeders and "fiber-freaks" to get together periodically to share information, comeraderie and knowledge of the fiber-producing animals we love so much. This would include becoming a local specialty club chartered by the American Rabbit Breeder's Association, which would also allow us to hold angora specialty shows to exhibit and promote our animals. We could then sponsor shows several times a year. Additionally, as non-ARBA sponsored functions, we would hold several fiber workshops a year. It's always been a great time. Interested?
